A customer called to get roughing insert information for turning Nitonic 50 material. For roughing I would use a good positive rake breaker but not too high shear. The higher the shear the weaker the edge and he needs to rough out stock.
I have 2 options from both Mitsubishi & Kyocera for the standad CNMG 432. I still feel using the MS-US735 or the PS-CA6525 are the best options.
The CVD coating can take more heat in the roughing stage.
You can run these and get exceptional tool life at 100-120 SFM at .006-.008 per rev. I have run this as high at 175 SFM but it all depends if you have a few parts or a lot to determine if tool life is an issue.
They Kyocera may be a little stronger for this application because they have a ceramic compound added to the Titanium coating base that offers more lubricity and can take more heat compared to conventional CVD coatings.
