Happy Mother's Day

After losing a very dear member of our family couple weeks ago, i have been waking up every morning to my alarm clock wondering “why?”. If it all ends in the blink of an eye then “what is it all for?”. If it doesn’t matter how many homes you had, if it doesn’t matter how much money you accumulated, if it doesn’t matter how successful or unsuccessful you were and if in the end we all go out as we came in; without any money and without any posessions, then what’s all the hustle and bustle for? Maybe there is some truth to this whole deal about ‘the journey’? Maybe it’s not about where we get to and where we end up in the end, and it’s truly all about the journey. As annoying and as cliché as that is what is left behind is the fruits of our labor and our love. Abraham Lincoln said “What you do for yourself dies with you; what you do for others lives on forever.” Well, I completely agree.

I think the the alarm clock sounds different when you are waking up to something you
love to do and something that is dear and close to your heart. I feel most alive when I work on my business serving our clients and when I’m around the people I love. I know in my gut that my life starts to make sense and that I am doing something that is in some small way making a difference. A difference to me and to the people I come in contact with and a difference which will not disappear into thin air when I do.

On this mother’s day my prayer for each and every one of you is that you are in some way shape or form making a difference and waking up to
something or someone you love. Whether you are raising kids and taking care of your family, or making a difference through your work, I hope that you are enjoying your journey and I hope that you are creating something along the way which will live on even after you.

Happy mother's day.

Social Media for Small Business - A Valuable Source of Exposure

Social Media for Small Business - A Valuable Source of Exposure

If you haven't jumped on the social media bandwagon to promote your business, you are missing out.  It is an inexpensive way to gain much needed exposure.  This alternative to traditional advertising creates buzz about your product, services or your brand from family members, friends and loyal customers, which is very different from exposure through paid advertisements.

When you set up a business page on Facebook (a fan page), you can link that page to your business twitter account.  This will automatically send your facebook wall posts to your twitter page saving you from having to post the same information on both sites.  You should also click on the Suggest to Friends link on your fan page to let your friends know about your page and to get a solid fan base started.

It is important to be conversational with your friends and followers, to stay connected with them on a more personal level, in addition to talking about new products, services and events for your company.

"As a result of developing a facebook page,  twitter page and consistant e-mail newsletters, my sales online and retail store have shown a steady increase." states Debbie Brink, owner of Pure Enchantment.  Debbie has been creating her own line of natural personal care products since 2003.  She is busy filling orders for her wholesale division as well as running a retail store.  Social networking allows her to engage with customers on a day to day basis and it is a valuable tool for getting input about product and fragrance requests.

It is important to manage the site daily.  It is often best to outsource that task as Debbie is doing.  "Running a small business on my own, I don't have the time nor the energy to manage a social media program.  iBizard has done a fabulous job of marketing me online!"

Social Media is a necessary step in the growth of a small business.  If you have created pages for your business, consistently maintain them,  if you don't have pages yet, it's never too late to start.

Use email marketing to give your Valentine's Day sales a boost

Valentine’s Day is almost here, and whether you love it or love to ignore it, it can give your business a boost in sales during an otherwise lackluster month.

There are many benefits of using an email blast to market to your customers.  One is the fact that you are already engaging a person who is a customer and is interested in what you have to say.  The second, is that emails, unlike direct mail, can be sent out with little advance notice (for those procrastinators out there - and I must say, I do know a few)!  Also, it is an extremely cost-effective way to market.

I have chosen a few of our client's Valentine's Day emails to highlight.  The first email was sent out by Urban Home & Garden.  We designed the email for them.  They opted for a subtle message to remind their customers that their store carries everything you need for a romantic Valentine's day.  Everything from holiday decor and plants to set the mood, and gift certificates to give to the one you love.  They included a $5 off coupon.  Chances are this will entice the email recipient to come in and buy something for themselves!

Next is Johanna Pockar who owns an interior design and feng shui consulting company called Energy by Design.  Using one of our pre-made design templates, she simply took the content of a blog she had written about Valentine's Day and  made that the body of her email.  For her, sending out the Valentine's Day email is about connecting with her customers by subltly reminding them that she is available to them and at the same time, giving them some free design advice.

The third email blast we also designed.  This one was done for Pure Enchantment.  This email is a friendly reminder to their already loyal customer base, to stop in, pick up a gift for someone they love and....they included a special offer for their customers.  Over the holiday weekend, they will receive a complimentary chocolate lip balm with a purchase of $15 or more.

Quick to send out, and quick to get customer response is what makes email marketing so effective.  At iBizard, all of our clients get to send out 25 free emails per month.  Our basic email marketing plan is only $9.99/month and allows you to send up to 5000 emails per month.  You can add coupons to your emails as well as clickable links to facebook, twitter, and my space.  As far as designs go, you can use any of our premade templates, create your own email using our editor, upload predesigned work, or hire us to do your design work for you.

law of paradoxical intent

The Law of Paradoxical Intent

I've had this book - Quantum Success by Sandra Anne Taylor sitting on my shelf for a while now.  I see it every time I look up from my computer during the day.  I always plan on reading it but never quite get to it.  I decided to delve into it and I am reading a chapter called, The Law of Paradoxical Intent, which is one of the universal laws of success.

The principle of this law shows that if you are desperate to make something happen and waiting to get what you want, you are sending out a vibration that will actually push it away and push away the people and situations that could bring to you what you want.  This will ultimately lead to your failure instead of your success.

Sandra goes on to explain that when you are waiting for something to happen, in order to be successful, then you are not truly happy.  And when you are not happy, and see lack in your life, you forego present contentment.  When you begin setting goals that you must achieve to to be happy in the future, you are making a very serious mistake.  Set the goal, but be at peace in this moment.

If you can begin to enjoy your life and stop waiting for happiness in the future, the you will be projecting a higher vibration and an energy that will respond by sending you what you set your intentions on.

"The Law of Paradoxical Intent points out the underlying paradox of personal achievement: You can get what you want by knowing that you don't need it to be happy!  It forces you to shift your focus from a desperate intention to a peaceful  pursuit.  Never send out the energy tat you're willing to wait to be happy-just that you're willing to wait for the goal.  Needing a particular achievement before you can live with peace and joy creates a desperate energy that's absolute poison to the resonance of success, so be clear about your intentions and fearless in your motivations.  Pursue your goals because you want them to enhance an already happy life, not because you'll be miserable without them."

The lesson is clear.  We must grow our business by being present in this moment and content with where we are right now and trust that the positive energy and intentions we set today (without focusing on what we think we lack), will bring us all the success and abundance in the world.

iBizard Blog Pages RSS Feed into Facebook

What is an RSS Feed anyway?

An RSS Feed (Really Simple Syndication) is a way of syndicating content on the internet.  No matter what the content is, RSS feeds are widely used to automatically broadcast changes and new additions to the subscribers or other web sites.

Our blogs now have RSS capabilities.  Your visitors can subscribe to updates on your blog by simply clicking the RSS feed icon on your iBizard blog.  Every time you create a new blog entry on iBizard an automated process regenerates your RSS feed updating it with the changes and new additions you have created.

Your RSS feed will be located at your iBizard subdomain name and will have a URL that looks like this:
http://www.ibizard.com/sites/YOUR_SUBDOMAIN_NAME/blogfeed.xml

You can also use this URL to have other web sites automatically retrieve new additions and updates to your iBizard blog without you having to do manual imports and updates every time you make changes.  Facebook is a prime example for this application.  Facebook allows users to import their blogs into their notes using the RSS feed method.  Under the notes section you will see an 'Import Your Blog' link.  Using this link and the RSS feed URL above, you can instruct facebook to check your RSS feed every couple hours and import any new additions automatically into your Facebook profile.  Facebook will not only import these updates, but will also post them on your wall, therefore broadcasting your new additions to all of your friends and fans.  Facebook also has a function where your friends and fans can subscribe to your 'notes updates', in which case they will get a direct message informing them of your new additions.

All this without you having to make new entries and then logging into to Facebook to do a manual import and post.  Pretty cool!

Please remember that Facebook is just one example of how to use your RSS feed.  You can use the RSS feed URL provided above to import your iBizard blog and automatically update any other sites, which allow RSS feed functionality.

Enjoy and for further details and instructions on general RSS questions and how to link your iBizard blog into your Facebook notes,  please refer to your iBizard Blogs Help Pages and search for RSS Feed instructions.

Break Out Of The Box

break out of the box

Stedman Graham is in town today for a motivational speech and book signing.  He was interviewed on tv this morning and I was absolutely mesmerized by him! I thought of  my partner, the similarities are astounding to me.

Cemali and I had a conversation just yesterday about feeling like you are being squeezed into a box that is too tight and everything seems like it is about to burst.  This feeling comes from old obligations that seem to stand in the way of us progressing in the fashion we would like.  Stedman was saying that each of us needs to break out of the box that keeps us from growing to our full potential. Make a stand and decide...are you going to be a leader or a follower, a slave or an owner. live in poverty or overcome it? (all of which he said, oprah hurdled over) The only thing that any of us shares, he explained is this 24hrs.  And it is up to us to decide what we do with those 24hrs.  And in these 24hrs we should be focused on becoming better than the last 24hrs.

He went on to describe the changing world and the global environment that people now face.  And this is the part that was Cemali all the way.  He talks it, lives it and believes it.  This is what our company is founded on. Stedman explained that the person that will succeed in the 21st Century work environment will have the ability to transcend race and build relationships—someone with a spirit of cooperation who is tolerant of others as well as responsible for him or herself. It will require people who think before they react and who understand the consequences of their actions. It calls for self-respecting people who feel good about where they came from and who do not apologize for who they are. And, it calls for people who will continue to grow and develop and who will bring value to themselves and those they represent.
There you have it - I see these qualities in my partner every moment of every day.  He is the most magnificent human being and is contributing to the planet in just this way.

I hope that you take the opportunity to not only read this entry, but to read Stedman Graham's new book  Diversity: Leaders Not Labels – A New Plan for the 21st Century
and to join iBizard and move forward with us.

"None of us is defined by our circumstances, nor are we defined by how other people perceive us. It is up to each one of us to define ourselves, and that is a life's work.
Each of us has the ability to lead a dynamic life by pursuing our unique goals and dreams. There are no limits to what you can do."

- Stedman Graham

Okay, so that’s the geeky weekend I had.  Let’s see… what do I have to add to that about my audiobook? Honestly, didn’t get a lot of time to listen to it this week, but here is one thing Marianne is currently talking about.  BE YOURSELF!  She says that we are at our best when we are ourselves.  She says that we are in our greatest glory and at our greatest potential when we are ourselves.  She says that the reason people feel like they have to put up a front, and pretend to be someone else is that they fear who they really are is not enough.  It’s somehow lacking something in some way or fashion.  Well, the truth it turns out is just the opposite.  It turns out that who we are is bigger than and better than any one of us can imagine.  She says that every one of us has infinite potential and infinite power hidden inside of us, and all we have to do is remove the walls and the defenses and the insecurities that hide that infinite potential.  She says that if everyone realized their infinite power and infinite potential the entire world would be lifted to a higher place and to a higher frequency.

As I type all that I can’t help but think of someone who left us couple weeks ago.  I know… I know… I know… Not Michael Jackson right? But just a minute… I know about all the controversy and I know about all the ‘up in the air’ stuff that’s out there about him.  Truth be told I don’t even know how I feel about any of it.  Don’t know whether to believe it or not believe it. I find myself going between ‘Wow he really was the most creative mind alive’ to ‘Really Michael? What were you thinking???’; but none of that is my point; here is my point:  All that ‘stuff’ aside… did Michael realize his infinite potential and infinite power?  Did he know what he had, and what he had to offer? Did others see it, and fully support him or were they just too scared to say, ‘wow! He really is amazing and he really is great’.

When someone acts larger than life, greater than life and larger and greater than any one of us, do we all get scared and start throwing stones?  Well if we do, then I’ll go on the record as saying ‘we need to stop it.’  I want to go on record as saying we need to celebrate the greatness in others and not be scared of it.  We need to applaud the highest potential in someone instead of calling it ‘weird’.

I have personally seen many examples of this in my working life, and I have always thought ‘can you imagine a company where every single person applauds and celebrates the greatness in every single one of their co-workers?  Can you imagine what kind of a work environment that would be and can you imagine the work, the imagination, the productivity that would come out of such an organization?’.  I think of a company like Google.  I think that’s exactly how an organization like Google started, thrived and became what it has become.  I do think at the beginning everyone pulled together and everyone had each other’s back.  I do think everyone worked toward a common goal with a common purpose.  Well, look at the results. No one even knew how two guys from Palo Alto, CA would single handedly change the world.  Not just California, not just the US, but THE ENTIRE WORLD.

I guess if Michael did it, I guess if Sergio and Larry did it, then so can every single one of us.  We just need a dream, we need a lot of coffee, we need to fully allow ourselves to reach our highest potential and we need to surround ourselves with people who will uplift us and support us in accomplishing our dreams.

Winning Arguments

winning arguements

So, yes now you are all stuck reading about my two cents on Marianne Williamson’s “Relationships Workshop”.  Speaking of the title of my new favorite audio book, I do have to tell you that in a Freudian slip last week I called the book “Relationships Work”.  Well the book is actually called “Relationships Workshop” and for an entire week, or even the day I picked it up I kept seeing “Relationships Work,” and what a fitting title since the concept Marianne is trying to convey is that relationships truly can and do work.  It’s just the ones that are not meant to work, or have served a purpose and are no longer supposed to work that do not work.  So this week I want to talk about “winning arguments” and “resolving conflict”.  Now, on the surface those two concepts might seem like they are mutually exclusive.  You might say ‘winning an argument’ means someone loosing or even forcing your opinions and your stance down someone’s throat and winning over them, while ‘resolving conflict’ sounds more gentle and maybe implies more of a give and take where both parties are winning.

Well Marianne says… (I know it’s become a Simon says deal at this point, but I just want to make sure that I am clear about when I quote her and I give credit where credit is due)… so Marianne says that the only “win” in a situation, argument, conflict is that there is no argument or conflict left in the end at all.  The only win comes when a common ground has been reached and both parties feel like their story and their side has been heard, has been taken into consideration and has been given its due diligence.  She says that “Miracles come from a place of joining, and blockage and conflict comes from a place of separation”.  She says that if an argument or conflict is entered into as two adversaries, then the tug of war will begin.  You have forgotten whose side you are on, and you now think you are your partner’s adversary, competitor and the argument has all of a sudden become a place for “winning”.  Things have become about being right and not about seeing the other person’s view, side, opening up yourself for the possibility that there are things out there that you do not know.  The reason you don’t even know that you don’t know those things, is because you just simply don’t.  So, you owe it to yourself and your partner to listen, to take in, but to listen with an open heart and an open spirit and with the vast possibility that you might learn something new and you might grow.  All the time getting closer and closer to the final goal and the bigger picture, which is really what counts, not our own personal agenda.

I have examples of this every day in my work life and in my personal life.  I am sure you all do too.  This happens to me with iBizard with Jeanette all the time.  Jeanette is the creative mind behind iBizard.  She designs, she draws, she dreams, she takes care of our customers’ needs. She creates things, it’s her gift. I on the other hand I am the tech guy.  I can make a computer get up and do your laundry and get you a cup of coffee while it’s doing your laundry.  Whenever Jeanette talks about technical stuff, I have learned to take a step back and listen. Listen because while she might not be able to write a PHP program and a javascript front end, she might be about to say something, which I do not know I don’t know.  Just recently she was talking about our Content Management System.  This is our customizable pages.  I can talk about this freely because I have already shared this with her   This was a dream of mine to develop customizable pages which would empower our customers to create and update their own web pages, and maintain their own content without needing anyone’s assistance (including mine!).  However, I thought  “that’s a project I have to set aside 6 months for”.  Well one day Jeanette was talking about our blog pages and said “You know? We already have blog pages, which allow our customers complete freedom to design, input, delete and modify content.  How is a web page with 4 different sections so different from a blog page?”.  Well at first I thought “God ignorance is bliss!”.  I thought “she thinks this is so simple,” and continued to pick up the remote to flip through channels while she was at the other end talking, completely intending on not even listening until she was through.  Well, somewhere in between Bravo, CNN and “how is a web page so different from a blog page?” I realized that she is COMPLETELY right and that there is no difference.  All I had to do was re-adjust our blog pages, and I would have my content management system.  I was done developing our custom pages over that one single weekend!  So, she knew more than me, and she saw more than me, and I would have missed out on a huge opportunity to learn technology from my “I love these colors with these fonts” partner, if I had continued NOT listening.

So listening is key, remembering that you are not adversaries is key.   You are on the same side, and you are working towards the same goal.  You must pull the wagon in the same direction with the same intent in order for the wagon to move.  Pull it in two different directions and you are all over the place.  Listening also must be accompanied with the willingness to get off your position.  If you are firmly stuck on your position and you are not willing to move an inch, guess what? YOU ARE STUCK.  You are not going anywhere.  Growth and learning does not happen in the “known”, it happens in the “unknown”.  Growth and learning does not happen in the “comfortable & cozy”, it happens in the “uncomfortable & not so cozy”.  You grow when you take risks, and when you embark on a journey to discover the unknown.   So listen, open yourself up to the possibility that your partner is about to say or do something that you didn’t even know was possible or existed.  Be willing to get off your position and above all make sure that your win includes their win also.  Make their win important to you, and make their win one of your goals. A one sided win is not a win at all.  As much as I hate to advocate the so-over-used, and so-annoying phrase “a win-win situation”, it really is the goal here.  It just becomes an annoying phrase when it’s used as a sales pitch and a cover up for “win-win situation for me”.  A win-win for me is not a win at all.  A win-win for the common goal and the common purpose is the true win.  A win that removes the conflict and resolves the argument and includes a win for both parties is the win that’s going to move the wagon in the right direction.
Happy 4th of July to all!

Relationships Work

relationships work

I just started reading "Relationships Work" by Marianne Williamson. She is one of my favorite authors and once again I am remembering why I am so influenced by her work and by her words. I picked up the book and thought "here is an interesting topic for light reading" and what I'm getting out of it so different from what I initially thought. She says that relationships exist to serve a higher purpose. They are the learning and growing grounds of both parties involved. She also says that we can not and MUST NOT rush relationships. She gives the example of an embryo growing into a baby in the womb. How cumbersome how magical and how tedious of a process being carried out with such intricacy and precision, but all along in it's own time. No one can rush it no one can get in there and rush the eyes and rush the spine and say "hmmm I wonder how this would look over here???" AND U KNOW WE WOULD! I know I would!!

Well as I read all that I thought "how well and how perfectly does all that fit into a business relationship. How you can't rush the 'PERFECT' relationship. How its going to bloom in its own time. How some business relationships stick and work and work for the benefit of both parties involved, and how some no matter how hard you try, no matter how much you offer/sell just does not work. This of course does not mean that you don't try your hardest and your best. It actually means being empowered with the knowing that there are no accidents and everything unfolds according to a much bigger plan, and approaching every person/meeting/assignment knowing that they were sent to you as part of a bigger plan so that you may both benefit and you may both grow you try even harder, you give it some more than all you've got. Your assignment is to figure out how you can help the other party to get to their next level while lifting yourself up to the next level through you relationship. The only thing this all means is that after you have given it your all and after you have gone the extra mile you recognize that if things don't work out its because they weren't meant to. You detach yourself from the outcome. You know that those who are meant to play in your play pen are already there playing with you or on their way and you open up your eyes and ears and be ready for them. Those on the other hand, who were not part of your "bigger" plan simply will play in a different play pen. They have other things to do and other lessons to learn. THIS if you force and THIS if you manipulate THEN you are playing with the embryo's eyes and rushing the spine and then outcome might be disasterous.

I think these principles can be applied to every relationship in your life... The clerk at the grocery store, your friends, your spouse/lover and certainly your next business partner. What an experience and what a gift if both parties enter each agreement and approach each meeting with these principles in mind. I think only then you can and should call yourself a true partner.

This is what President Barack Obama said last evening at the ASU commencement speech.  As an entrepreneur and business owner, I was moved by his words and am certain that anyone working toward a goal or achievement, be it personal or business, would be extremely motivated by what he said.  He reminds us all that "One's title...says very little about how one's life was led." and "There is ALWAYS more to achieve."  But in achieving our goals we can take two paths.  The first path, is the path that teaches you to chase the brass ring  and leads you to measure your success thru material possessions.  That approach, he says, "displays a POVERTY of AMBITION. It distracts you from what is REALLY important."

The second path that you can take, is the one that does not involve chasing titles and basing worth on what you own.  The President said that "Businesses that last are those with a devotion to some bigger purpose.  That is the hallmark of REAL SUCCESS."

Wow, when Cemali and I began our business together, it was always about the business being the catalyst to provide us with the tools we need to help others.  And yes, our business goal is to help other businesses to grow.  But in return, our bigger purpose is to grow our business to the place where IT will allow us to help those in need.

Let's all stay on that path together.

All It Takes Is An Idea

all it takes is an idea

Have you ever had a business idea, and never followed thru?  Never taken even the smallest step to talk about it, research it or follow it thru? Yes, i know.  I have been there too.  Well, I have noticed that something new is happening.  In the past few months, people seem to be infused with a spirit of creativity.  So many of my friends are voicing ideas about businesses they would like to build.  Be it big or small, they all have really great ideas.  It seems like this is the year of the entrepreneur.  Maybe it's the fact that they know my business partner and I have worked diligently over the past year to bring our business to life, from a seed that was merely a thought, or maybe...it's the fact that the business we created, was created to help them, and everyone with a vision, on their journey to creating and growing their thoughts and ideas into businesses that are living extensions of themselves.  Whatever the reason, iI am truly excited to finally launch iBizard and even more excited to help the businesses that come our way.  All it takes is an idea to change a day, a life, the world.
